Matthew Carter is a world-renowned typeface designer. He has created some of the most popular and widely used typefaces, including Verdana, Georgia and Tahoma. He has also designed custom typefaces for many major brands, such as Microsoft, Coca-Cola and IBM.
Carter began his career as an apprentice to legendary British typographer Eric Gill. He later worked as a freelance graphic designer and art director before setting up his own design studio, Carter & Cone, in 1974.
Over the course of his career, Carter has won numerous awards and recognition for his work. In 2009, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Smithsonian Institution’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. And in 2019, he was inducted into the National Academy of Design.
Carter’s work has helped shape the landscape of modern typography and his contributions to the field are highly respected by his peers. His typefaces are used by millions of people around the world every day, making him one of the most influential type designers of our time.
